One Month!?

Wow, Finn was one month old yesterday. I seriously cannot believe how fast time is going by. I feel like all of a sudden, he's really learning how to do things - simple things like keep the pacifier in his mouth and suck on his hand, but it's incredible to see him change and grow.
We had a very fun week - his friends visited again last Sunday and we had a BBQ and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We dropped by Mike's work so we could show him off to everyone, we have had lots of visits from the grandparents, and we took our first trip to Target - woo hoo! Mike is leaving this afternoon to drive to New Mexico for an advanced scuba diving certification, so I will have Finn by myself until Sunday night. Thankfully I have a good friend who is visiting from out of town staying with me, so I will have some help. But it is a little scary to have him leave for 3 days! I'll be getting a little less sleep than normal, that's for sure!
Something random that I never realized is that it takes several weeks for the tear ducts of infants to develop, so when Finn would cry, it was just the sound...well he's gearing up to break our hearts, because yesterday we spotted the first tear - tried to catch it on camera...
We are really looking forward to being there for his "firsts"...he should start smiling soon and really start interacting with us.
Here he is with his Abe Lincoln shirt, courtesy of a coworker who is crazy about Abe. As you can see, Finn is very excited about it!

Finn's friends visit!

One of the best things that Mike and I did when after I got pregnant was to sign up for a childbirth class at the hospital - the information was helpful, but the reason it turned out so great was that we met 8 other great couples who were all due within a month of us. On the first day of class we had to do one of those lame "introduce your neighbor to the class" exercise, and we were paired up with 2 other couples - Lisa & Phillip and Karli & Sean. We ended up really hitting it off and went out to dinner a couple of times before our babies came. We continue to be friends now that we've all had our babies - Karli and Sean had Dillan on Feb. 13th and Lisa and Phillip had Ella on Feb. 27th. They all came by for a visit today and we had a wonderful time! It is so fun to have friends who are all going through the exact same things in their lives and to swap stories about this crazy parenting thing.

3 weeks old

I can't believe how fast time is going by! Finn is 3 weeks old today!
Yesterday was a long day - he was up from 7 am until 3 pm, the longest stretch he's ever gone without a nap. Thankfully, that equated to an easy night.

His hair is really changing, and I think he'll be a blondie like his dad...

And hopefully he'll get mom's blue eyes

A Routine

I'm happy to say that our little family is finally settling into a bit of a routine. Finn is starting to be more awake during the day, but thankfully still doesn't seem to be much of a crier. He just stares wide eyed at the world. Makes us wonder what he's thinking, but he's not telling us yet. We are learning how to get some sleep and still cater to our son's every whim. Thankfully, he's not making it too hard on us.

He continues to provide Mike and I with lots of entertainment - of course, our idea of entertainment has changed quite a bit in the last month. I never thought we'd be so content just staring at him while he stretches and contorts his face. There is even this one specific cry that he does when he is hungry that never fails to crack Mike up. I'm sure that's not what Finn is going for, but nonetheless... Anyway, the moral is that it is absolutely crazy how much this parenting thing has changed us and our life.

Today we had a check up at the pediatricians office, and it went very well...Finn is already 7 lbs 8 oz, which is awesome. He got a clean bill of health, and even peed on the doctor - he had to punish him somehow for putting that cold stethoscope all over his belly!

Hunter continues to get to know his new brother - he is getting much more used to having him around and all the noises he makes. He still wants to lick all over his face, but I'm not sure Finn is into that. I should probably let Hunter have the upper hand while he can - it's only a matter of time before Finn starts pulling his hair and his tail. I see them becoming great friends :)

2 Weeks Old

Finn is 2 weeks old today. It's weird to think that he wasn't even supposed to be here for another week! We don't do much every day, but somehow time is just flying by. We have had lots of visits from family and friends and we are having fun showing off our boy.
We went for a walk yesterday in a little park right outside our house. Our dog Hunter enjoyed his first walk in 8 weeks (crazy snow and super low temps have kept us inside) and as you can see from the picture, Finn just enjoyed an outside nap.
Life is definitely alot different already - Mike and I are starting to settle into a bit of a routine...he's on a diaper duty most of the time, although I have assured him that as soon as he starts lactating, that I am happy to share the responsibility. Sometimes, we have to tag team it though - like yesterday when we actually had to clean poop out of his hair. Oh yeah, parenting is glamorous! (sorry, no accompanying picture for that fantastic moment) However, we are having alot of fun, and we are both so happy to be home with him right now.
Our former one and only "son" Hunter is still adjusting to having to share our attention. When Finn cries, he dances around very anxiously as if he's trying to help. We can't tell if he's being protective, or just plotting how to give Finn back to the hospital or at least back in my belly.

Welcome to the World

Mike and Kym are happy to introduce their son, Finn Allen to the world. Because Finn already has so many admirers, we figured this would be a good way to share pictures and small details of his life with the world!

Finn was born on Thursday, February 22nd at 2:44 am. He wasn't due until March 14th, but he was still a very healthy 6 lbs 11 oz and 19 inches long. My water broke at 4:30 in the morning on the 21st. We went into the hospital and after nearly 24 hours, he was born. (He is 1 minute old in this picture!)

We left the hospital on Saturday afternoon and brought our little guy home. He had a very quiet first week - just loads of sleeping, eating, and pooping! He is a very mellow boy, only cries when he needs something. Mike and I were initially worried about all the ins and outs of parenting, but everything came very natural to us. Sleeping hasn't been too bad - he pretty much just eats every couple of hours and goes right back to sleep.

It's incredible how much our life has changed already, and we feel so lucky. We both have a bad habit of just staring at the little guy for hours...when we aren't taking pictures of him!
